Breaking ground on the Girls Arise Uganda school was a defining moment in a journey that began with a simple, powerful dream. In 2023, Girls Arise Uganda officially acquired a parcel of land that would become the foundation of this dream. Girls Arise Uganda has come a long way since its early days of distributing menstrual sanitary kits in eastern Uganda. Today, the organization has reached and impacted more than 1,000 girls and women across Tororo and Jinja through menstrual health education and reusable pad programs.

In Uganda and similar settings, menstruation remains deeply stigmatized—a silent force keeping many girls out of school, isolated, and vulnerable. Studies show that nearly a quarter of girls miss at least four school days per menstrual cycle due to lack of sanitary products or fear of humiliation. Many resort to makeshift cloth materials, which can lead to infections, absenteeism, and early dropouts.
